“Did she mention her will? Any financial matters?”
“No. She just thanked me.”
The sheriff nodded. “That lines up. Now please open your mailbox.”
“My mailbox?”
“Yes.”
My hands shook as I walked over and opened it.
Inside was a large envelope.
And a note:
“You’re a good girl. Don’t forget that. – Margaret Carter”
I opened it.
Inside were legal documents… a letter… and a check.
The check was made out to me.
$250,000.
I screamed.
“What is this?”
