While most bruises are harmless, certain patterns should prompt a doctor’s visit.

See a doctor if you have:

  • Bruises that appear without any injury
  • Frequent nosebleeds or bleeding gums
  • Bruises that are large, painful, or slow to heal
  • Petechiae (tiny red or purple dots on the skin — a sign of low platelets)
  • Family history of bleeding disorders
  • Recent start of new medication

🔍 Possible Underlying Conditions (Rare but Real)

Low platelet count (thrombocytopenia)

Fatigue, frequent nosebleeds, heavy periods

Vitamin C deficiency (scurvy)

Swollen gums, joint pain, fatigue — rare but possible

Liver disease

Jaundice, swelling, easy bleeding

Kidney disease

Fatigue, swelling, changes in urination
