A Prayer Carried Through the Silence: For Shaneiqua Elkins and the Children Whose Voices Were Taken Too Soon

Eight lives that she carried inside her heart.

We ask You to hold each one of those children now.

Gently.

Lovingly.

Safely.

Let them be surrounded by peace, free from pain, wrapped in light.

Let their laughter exist somewhere beyond this world, untouched by what happened here.

And God, for the survivors—

For the woman who was injured.

For the teenager who jumped to live.

For every soul touched by this moment—

We ask for healing.

Not just physical healing, but deep, emotional, spiritual healing that takes time and patience.

Be present in their recovery.

Be present in their nightmares.

Be present in the quiet moments when the weight of everything returns.

Give them strength they didn’t know they had.

Give them peace that doesn’t make sense, but still somehow finds them.

And God…

We ask for something else, too.

For everyone reading this.

For everyone feeling this heaviness.

Help us to be kinder.

Help us to look after one another.
